    Nothing Changed

    By: Sarah Gregory

    April rains fall heavy across
    ancient backyard forests
    moss covers spilling ground
    ferns shivering against muck
the call comes to stop everything
    the sky just keeps falling

    soaked foxes search for rabbits
    amongst Mississippi trees
unafraid of my stature on oak
porch steam from my coffee rising
the announcement rings to not leave
yet their paws just keep padding

    my unassuming pantry is already
    supplied complimenting deer stew
next to catfish in deep freezer
crops are close down winding road
the notification rings to stock up
and my neighbor’s chickens keep laying
