    The
    Froth
    On top
    Is all mine
    My Frappuccino
Which I'll finish in one BIG gulp
I will i promise, if you don't believe me watch me.
Ha! there! did you see it? all gone! froth and all! too late Islander: yes you Ink Mistress!

    Shadows billow 'cross the city
Far from sand and shattered visage
Though here the lip still quivers
A sneer of cold command at those up'igh
    Faceless canvas roaring war
    Sky-wide the Blitzkrieg blanket
    And fallen puppets rain
    And afar strings reign.

    A tale for long after
    Those legs-of-stone
Wash by an Ocean of Time
    Above, the cosmic lark
    Calls no more
    The war is over
    Feather still
    All's left an ashen hand
    A pedestal in the rubble
    On which these words appear:

    'O'King of Kings'

    I met a poet
From a world beneath the Fog-of-War
    Unjust wings and enemy
    Whose feather turned tales half-lit
The warp of his work: a traveller
    The weft a land-much-older-than-here
    Above him: crack, roaring thunder
    Warring diesel, plight asunder

    To my wonderful Mum

From whose imagination I leapt into the light of day,
Who sacrificed her youth to give me a chance to live.

Your love and counsel complete me.
There's nobody I'm more proud of,
Nobody to whom I owe more gratitude.

    All hail
    The worldly veil
    Of wind and sail,
    And rising whale;
    Nesting quail;
    Possum's tail.
    Skies fierce, bright and pale
Nature knows not how to fail.

Harold's in his seventies now and I'm thirty-three. I recently reached out and told him how profoundly the experience had affected me.
    He was blown away.
And I think my saying so filled a space in his heart too.

With chattering teeth, I hold up the binoculars and follow Harold's instruction.
    Then I see it.
A fiery scratch on the distant sky; an icy tail arcing behind:
Comet Hale-Bopp sailing into my world; into a tiny pocket of my boyish heart forever to remain.

Harold tells me the last time it passed Earth was during the Age of the Pyramids. We stand in the bitter cold imagining Pharaohs and royal crowds gazing up from the sands of Egypt, filled with the same marvel as little old me.
