In the middle of the feral forest and wilderness Growing even under the shade of tall trees Standing erect in the roaring rains Never bowing in the beguiling breeze
Rooted deep in the terrestrial terrain Unwilling to be pushed arbitrarily away Bearing the brunt of the scorching heat Unbending in negligent nights and dull days
Unbridled even when burnt to ashy cinders Finding sustained sustenance around Bearing a patiently prickly exterior Reaching far till one is abundantly abound
May you posses a gorse like tenacious tenacity May nothing conquer you and overpower May you risk yourself while seditiously surviving With a heart like the wonderful wildflowers
Arriving on the shores of New Zealand in early 1800s, Gorse - a member of the pea family , bearing a prickly exterior with bright yellow flowers, surviving the hot and humid summers and harsh winters, was originally brought to the country with the objective of acting like a wind breaking hedge while beautifying the landscape. Not only did Gorse inhabit all it was grown on, it spread like wildfire and refused to die even when burnt. It made life very difficult for the New Zealanders as it would take root whenever it was placed and seeds would burst when burnt and scatter and replant themselves. The thorns on the flowering plant made it impossible to act as feed for the cattle and other farm animals. Today Gorse occupies huge areas all along the coastline and in other spaces , silently but firmly rebuffing any attempts to be displaced. The government is still trying to work out a way of ridding themselves of the tenacious wild shrub that simply refuses to quit surviving.

When, Wildflowers came to my rescue. . My existence Sings to me, A lullaby of Bliss and dreams. All the tenderness, Fades away, With a promise of Love, And a story of Lost rhythm. . As you rain On my olive garden, And my flowers wilt, How does it feel When your socks are wet? . That was the day, When I felt happy, When I found myself, In my beach hat, Looking for blueberries, In my basket of dreams. . I learn to embrace This transient fall, The transient highs, And the transient lows. . My puzzle Stays a lifetime, With me. My puzzle lives with me, Radiating warmth, Stagnating my mind, With ice blankets. Painting my eyes, A heavy brown. . Eyelashes flutter, I see you. . -Monali.
