Butterfly Poem
I start off hidden in a cacoon,
In hopes of being beautiful soon
After all the changes, I finally come out
However, I still find myself full of doubt
The curious creatures are now pointing
I can't take the stares & attempts of touching
As everything turns too harsh, I fly away
Surely, I was not supposed to be out today
But is there any way of knowing?
If I have beauty, why do I feel the same?
This fragile, frightened shame
It took a while for me to understand
But I now realize in order go feel grand,
I must do more than fly & land
I must make changes within me.
That way, life will become more than what I see
I will fly to be free.

Gaze
Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder is one of the most beautiful proverbs of all time.
And yet the societal gaze of judgements don't leave us behind,
Movies making it okay for men to view women as sexual objects,
Here we are in a world which is still trying to break free from the shackles of male gaze.
Patriarchy is so deeply ingrained,
The man's view of a woman doesn't transcend beyond a typical gaze.
And no, I do not speak of all men here,
I only speak of those who gaze at women in a way which makes her feel shredded in fear.
Tugging at the ends of my kurta to cover my back,
Still a few gazes peer through as much as they can,
In most cases, their friends join their revelry,
I'm reduced to feeling like I'm nothing.
This gaze of disgrace which society gives us women,
For steering our path through life,
Why don't the same people look down upon those men,
Who shamelessly harass a woman.
A gaze I keep looking for is a tender one,
The one's from my loved one,
The stolen glances which fire up the ecstasy of the soul,
Which makes life feel euphoric all along.
I keep looking for the kind gazes,
Which people exchange when their eyes meet,
The one's where innocent strangers know,
That you're a nice person indeed.
Remember those tender gazes like our grandparents had?
I hope it's comes back as a trend this time!
