I like the town on rainy nights,
When raindrops splatter on cobblestones,
Weeds sprouting in the sidewalks.
I like the town
on those nights,
when the sky unleashes his fury
and rain falls. And falls.
I like the town on those days when I can draw hearts
on frosty windows - and dream.
Dream of days long gone.
I like the town on so many days-
when the wind howls and flings itself on the shuddering windows,
when the world seems to be
listless. And sceptre-gray rainclouds
rumble in the distance.
I like the town on those nights,
when Loneliness permeates the air,
and sinks deep into us with every breath.

This poem is written on a prompt by @carolyns_challenges.

Thank you so much for the repost @writersnetwork !!

It was inspired by a line by Roger Waters, "You shout and no one seems to hear."

This line reminded me of the Draft Environmental Impact Assessment which was proposed in March 2020. It dilutes the voices of the people who may get adversely affected by developmental projects by scrapping public hearings.

An Environmental Impact Assessment ( EIA ) is basically a process of evaluating environmental impacts of a proposed project. Under the Draft EIA 2020, if there is local resistance to polluting industries, their voices will not matter. The impacts such industries can have one the people are:
1. Nearby water bodies get polluted and people will lose access to clean drinking water
2. If the soil is polluted, the crops farmers sow won't grow.
3. Some pollutants can seriously affect the human health in the area, etc

Does it all even matter?
All the things that I have lost

When all I see are forests razed,
Gas leaks galore, the mangles bodies of innocents
sprawled on blood-red fields.

They say Utopia doesn't exist
that land of spinning eternity loops
reflecting golden specks of stardust
They say they waters are blue there,
bluer than the skies, the blue of

I write fairy breezes into existence,
Stringing together words into
lapis-lazuli necklaces and silver anklets
that shimmer against lavender skies.
I write because I want to scatter them into the wind,
these words and their magic
I want to feel morning mist splattering against my face-
the way reality does after you've been buried too long in books. In words.
In that all encompassing magic. I write because
I want to see clouds of imagination puffing
out into the sky, I want to see tomorrows.
I want to live and breathe Utopia.
These ink-smeared hands and coffee-stained pages? They're home,
like nothing ever was.
My skin soaks up words- words, words, and more words.

Wrote this because I'm pissed at the massive deforestation happening in India, with the government approving unnecessary projects which cause MASSIVE deforestation and habitat loss, and irreparable damage to local communities. Also, these projects aren't even necessary. There are alternatives to them which don't destroy our world, and ways in which the damage can be minimised, and that's not even happening.

Dear Friends, this is a very important message for us to act on. Please object to the Environmental Impact Assesment (EIA) Darft 2020 by mailing the Environment Ministry. (Link in my bio)

Environmental Impact Assessment ( EIA ) is a process of evaluating environmental impacts of a proposed project taking into account inter-related socio-economic, cultural and human-health impacts. Draft EIA 2020 by Government of India proposes to legitimize actions currently listed as violations, dilutes rules by expanding list of projects exempted from public consultation & does not prescribe a robust post environment clearance monitoring system. Besides giving a lot of discretionary powers to govt authorities, Draft EIA 2020 is heavily loaded in favour of industries allowing polluting industries to pollute more and causing immense harm to nature. Under the new draft EIA, industries set to benefit from no public consulting are chemical fertilizers, pesticides, petroleum product plants & many more. If there is local resistance to these polluting industries, their voices will not matter. Removing public consultation spells disaster as it is a must for any environment clearance process.

The government has called for objections. Please share this petition link widely urging people in your networks to sign. All our local environment and forest battles will fall flat if the EIA is manipulated. We all have to work together to stop this Draft from becoming a Notification.
So please, PLEASE go to the link in my bio and click on it and send a mail to the Environment Ministry and share this as much as possible.

of these violet skies,
the kind with richly hued clouds
I can't help staring at

The endless cycle of nature
Death and rebirth, intertwining
so that you cannot make out
the differences between them. My soul
