It would have been a pleasure to rest
But how can I when I am under arrest,
Under the arrest of the void of my best.
I worked hard with my entire chest,
Reached the peak of my career's everest
Planted so many an achievement forest
But today, I am of my own life, a guest.
This is not my own harvest,
A man like me could not have had such an interest
But there are claims that I was, in that terrain, the meanest.
I don't understand how all of this did, under my name, exist
It sounds more like some prank, so please desist
Lest you would be met by my frail fist.
Quit giving me egotistic massage, let me enjoy my humble retirement mist.

Retirement is inevitable
Time races even for the very able
Mentally prepared, so he thought
But he went weak unable to face what the day brought!
It was the arrival of the dreaded day
Much much to his dismay
Garlands and gifts galore
Speeches, some rehearsed and some extempore,
Kind words spoken, too good to be true?
They were following the protocol through!
Familiar he was, with every brick and stone,
At work, he was the jewel that shone!
Interests outside of work? No way!
Gladly would he stay and work all night and day
Blending so much in his identity,
He even forgot he was an entity!
Nervous he was, he could hardly speak
the future, away from work, appeared bleak!
His bag was heavy, so was his heart,
Flooded with plethora of memories of a lifetime ,
He looked back one last time!
Life at work will go on regardless,
It hardly matters if one person is less.
Memories are for celebration of a fine innings,
It's time now to welcome new beginnings!
Retirement from work is only a phase,
Lot of adventures are still left to chase!
