D: DAILY GUIDEPOSTS 293:
> Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.... -ROMANS 12:2 (NIV)
I had a disagreement with a friend several weeks ago. Since then, God has been nudging me to have a healing, eye-to-eye conversation with her, and I’ve resisted, filled with all sorts of excuses about why I don’t need to. After all, time heals all wounds, right?
But God wouldn’t let my rebellion win, so I finally asked my friend to join me for coffee and she agreed. So here we are today at the coffee shop, seated across from each other at a little round table. It’s cold and blustery outside, but the coffee cup is warm in my hands. We sit and sip, and at first our conversation feels a bit awkward. Gradually, we go back to that time and place and start to untangle parts of it. I try to explain myself and apologize for getting emotional. We agree that we don’t want to get stuck in this broken place; we want to move forward. Eventually, we’re even able to laugh at our fallibilities, which we often try to hide. Finally, we pray, hug and head for home.
I sit still behind the steering wheel for a few moments, wondering why I resisted God’s nudges so long, because being on the other side of this kind of open-hearted conversation not only humbles me, but also brings me freedom and hope and the potential for a more meaningful friendship.
Lord, even though Your way may not always feel like the easy way, it is the right way and makes me both a receiver and giver of Your grace.—CAROL KUYKENDALL
