For The Times We Live In
Another hour, another day
Another week, it's not going away.
Trapped, like a prisoner of war,
facing an invisible enemy,
who's left an indelible scar.
Grieve your last best days, they said.
The heart doesn't have enough left,
to forge ahead.
It's now just like the others,
in this the land of the emotionless.
Want of money, want of power, want of votes, we've regressed.
We fought the good fight,
thought yesterday was here to stay.
We've gone from #LetMeBreathe
to 'I can't breathe' in just a day.
But we must dig deep,
& find the fortitude to live,
not merely survive.
We'll face our darkest fears
& not bow down to our insecurities,
because they lie.
It's not over, not by a long shot.
Because tomorrow must not & will not,
come to nought.
Our foe will learn of our resilience.
It may scuff, but not dull, our brilliance.
And when the sun rises again,
we'll stand shoulder to shoulder.
Together, shed a tear in memory of those,
who won't grow older.
We'll share a laugh & a warm embrace.
That what we thought we'd lost,
will be back in its rightful place.
