When I was a kid
Halloween was my favorite time of the year.
Leaves changing, air cooling.
Football games and cool fall days.
Finding the perfect costume was my top priority.
Creations that hid our true identity,
Allowing us to scare our friends,
Running around free as the breeze,
Pretending to be someone I wasn't,
Not a care in the world.
You see, the thing is,
I'm quite good at pretending.
And over the years,
One day turned into to two.
Two weeks,
Two months,
Two years,
Too long to remember when I wasn't hiding.
This visage I once put on to free myself,
Is now the prison that traps me.
It's funny, really.
When I was a kid,
Halloween was my favorite time of the year.
Now I can't wait for it to be over.
