    As I sit in the waiting lounge of the hospital, I think of how a place can signify life and death and the journey in between, the way a hospital does! You can actually see life sectioned off here! Sometimes on the basis of stages of the life cycle, sometimes on the basis of the organs from head to toe... A section for birth, a section for growing up, a section for older people, a section for death.. A section for heads, and necks and hearts and peripherals! A section for happy times, a section for accidents, a section for pain, a section for emergencies! It's a place full of contrasts! On a floor, while a new life is taking shape, on the floor below it, someone is probably struggling for the last breath! In a part, while someone is getting better after struggling for long, another part is seeing the entry of someone whose life is hanging by a thread! Maybe while someone is leaving the hospital by one gate, after getting all better, an ambulance is entering the other carrying a person who has been in an accident! But one thing ties these uncertainties together, the pursuit of life!

    The Green Halls!!

    These green halls,
    Have seen it all,
    Some bumps, some falls,
    After long, someone standing tall!

    The busy lanes,
    Have experienced pain,
    Seen the aftermath of rain,
    The journey from a wheelchair to cane!

    The multiple floors,
    Have opened and shut the doors
    To death itself, on life's shores
    Seen life taking it's entire course!

    The tall storeys,
    Have heard all stories
    Of trauma and mangled gory
    Tangled organs and bodies to bury!

    The many gates,
    Have decided many fates,
    The results of love and of hate,
    Lives living out at unsteady rates!

    It's a place,
    Showing the many faces
    Of violence and life's races,
    Alive a moment, reaching death at a steady pace!

    A hospital it is,
    Where life comes to be,
    And where it will cease,
    But still a lot of hope here, everyone sees!

    जो न रोया हो कभी कहाँ ऐसा कोई इंसान है

    कोई समझदारी नही होती बेफिज़ूल दिमाग लगाने में
    कुछ हासिल नहीं होता किसी को नीचा दिखाने से
    सिर्फ मिलती हैं तकलीफ़े खुद अपनी ज़िन्दगी में
    जज़्बातों को शब्दों का मोहोताज़ मत बनाओ
    थोड़ी तो आहट ज़िंदा रहने दो ज़िन्दगी में
    सच्चे रिश्तों से ज़िन्दगी गुलज़ार हो जाती है
    इत्र की तरह रिश्तों को महकने दो ज़िन्दगी में
    बेतहाशा खूबसूरत लगती है ज़िन्दगी
    अगर अपनों का साथ हो ज़िन्दगी में
    मान लो तो हर पल खास होता है ज़िन्दगी में
    न मानो तो हर पल उदास होता है ज़िन्दगी में
    जी लो खुलकर हर लम्हा खुलकर ज़िन्दगी का
    ख़ास यादें भी होतीं हैं हर शख्स की ज़िन्दगी में
    हर मर्ज़ की दवा नही मिलती है ज़िन्दगी में

    I keep scratching the old scab

    Like an assurance of my existence

    I wonder if
    you heard me
    call your name.


    I painted a sky
    with all colors, but blue
    I wanted to ask,
    why do you love it so much?

    a blackbird bathed in the river
    twice, it dipped its head,
    then feathers
    I watched it from my balcony
    half smudged with the filtering rays
    of the red sun.

    the last thing I said
    to the wind was to
    never give your name away.

    did you see the letters in the clouds
    hovering above your home?
    until the wind whispered to me
    'you're still alive'.


    tell me when will you write on
    the heritage of our apocalypse,
    so I can scribble your name
    on a paper plane and set it
    free into the wind that
    so wishes to carry me away.

    Her-I-tage

    The heritage of memories you share with a person
    in a relationship that was once in bloom
    Stays buried under the hard ground of promises
    And makes it alive through the worst of the storms
    Where icy blasts from the past
    freeze the tundras and taigas of your heart
    and your breaths reek of mosses and lichens burgeoning in the stoned lungs
    As you exhale the smoke to empty your ballasts.

    The blizzard takes over but you don't notice the change
    while used to this inclement weather
    That makes the sun shy away in a dark corner
    Even though it beams with pride over your head
    But the light seems simulated
    Like a phone screen lit up by a casual Watz up? message
    Without having a permanent cure to the avalanche
    Whose echoes are rumbling inside your cave
    And whose roof may cave in now any day
    But that's a story that's just repeated everyday.

    It's a her and it's a him
    With a lot of spaces in between
    Inspite of waking up ad nauseam
    To the smell of one another's sweaty skin
    Without noticing
    When it turns too slippery to elude one's grip
    when the mouths that once kissed
    Now remain tight lipped.

    A cold, crumbling and buried monument
    That once was the center of emotional pilgrimage
    Is a memory now that lasts a few moments
    And now mostly covered by a shroud of foggy winters
    Or smog of a polluted past
    That settles too fast on your cityscape
    Like a blurry trailer of the the cataclysm you can't escape,
    Like the touch of soft lips on a succulent nape.

    Now you look for a box of tissues and a bottle of oil
    After your tears have dried
    but left you with a desire viscous and alkaline.
    You wipe away the stickiness of an incomplete closure
    Before it turns crusty with too much exposure.
    You close your eyes,
    It's bed time.

    Inheritance

    Born with a silver spoon, a princess,
    Father, King, Tyrant, dethroned, beheaded,
    She, only survivor of her dynasty,
    Her inheritance hate,
    Anxious existence, plotting revenge,
    Plot thickens, the murderer also her saviour,
    Strange dilemma, exact revenge or abandon it,

    Sweet tooth he was, loved things sugary,
    Doctors diagnosed with diabetes at an early age,
    The disease was hereditary,
    Now he struggles to buy a dose of insulin,
    Being alive a daily struggle thanks to his kin,

    A child gets the best birthday gift,
    A hefty trust fund passed to him when he turns eighteen,
    He wanted to know, the content of the will,
    Burst out with tears, he hugged his parents,
    The inheritance they had left was a lifetime supply of water and oxygen,
    Also an letter to go with it,
    Where they apologized for their generation's greed and incompetence,

    Dedicated his life, several causes he championed,
    Thousands of strangers at his funeral shedding tears,
    His legacy, immortality, his memory, a heritage for those people,
    Smiling from the heavens, content, his life not trivial,

    Grew up in foster homes,
    Abandoned by his parents,
    Curious to know the reason,
    He searched for them,
    Mother religious, conservative,
    Didn't opt for abortion,
    Pregnant in her teen,
    She had her own dreams,
    Didn't even bother to inform the father,
    She deviated for one night from her religion,
    Gave in to the bodily passion,
    Only to pass a miserable childhood,
    To her own child..

    He got a billion dollar company from his father,
    But his passion music and writing,
    Novels turned into excel sheets,
    Concerts into corporate performances,
    Appointed a CEO for the company,
    He left to follow his passion,
    People mocking all over internet,
    Before he could get some appreciation,
    He knew, the label on him would be,
    A poster boy for nepotism,

    Nature is cruel, indifferent towards it's progeny,
    But inculcated the values of self-preservation in them,
    Mating to ensure survival and carry on their genes,
    It's natural to think for the well being of children,
    No malfeasance in the intention behind inheritance,
    As it is with most things in the world,
    Choice rarely ends in your desired consequence....
