Three words.
I, who will spit them out.
Who finds affection hard to show.
Who spends late nights phrasing and rehearsing declarations of love, framing the 'I miss you's, carefully regulating the emotions that goes into the lines I arrange and rearrange for optimal coherence.
Love. That's tricker.
Something about buying your favourite ice cream flavour and pretending not to want the last cookie. Something about us swallowing the bitterness and smiling for one another. Something about me not telling you how much I'd miss you when you were so happy to go, and you setting aside your good news for when I was in a better mood.
You, whom I've hated.
And love before that. Loved and hated and wanted to be. You, who showed neither the love nor the bitterness nor the guilt we shared and brought upin one another.
You, who will never read this poem.
