Islam is the name of giving light and peace by believing in Tawhid. It is the duty of every Muslim to spread this light from himself to the world. Remember that Sufism, Tadbar, thinking, renewal, praise, remembrance, thanksgiving, patience, trade, politics, Khilafah, Jihad and service to the people are all its elements. In the same way, religion is the name of fulfilling all the social, economic and spiritual needs of the body and soul in a pure (halal) way. It is not enough to walk in one corner only.
Woman empowerment need not happen only in board rooms, it can happen in the fields, it can happen in the villages, why, it can even be by beating the drum!
Playing the drums was traditionally a man’s forte. A group of women of Dhibra village near Patna have shattered stereotypes and have taken to playing the drum and have formed their own band. They are headed by the gutsy Savita Devi and they display their skill in weddings, functions and get togethers. They have also used their skill for a unique cause. Whenever a woman is abused, they gather around the house and play drum loudly thereby gathering attention and making the man feel ashamed of his action and stop it immediately.
Proudly showcasing the talent of Savita Devi and team. May her tribe increase.
POWER IN A DRUM
We work hard in the farm, We are not free from harm, We face abuse of every kind, That will simply blow your mind!
Abusers took advantage of silence It filled them with arrogance Assuming their acceptability They continued their atrocity
So then, what did we do? Make a guess will you? We took to beating the drum, We scare the daylights out of them!
When there is an injustice We made a big noise Everyone took notice Finally we got our voice
This is indeed a loud agitation, Strongly storming the male bastion. We did come under a lot of flak, But we never turned back!
Never ever feel powerless, Stand united to feel fearless, When for a cause, women gather, There is an unlimited power
